River rafting

In Coorg  there  will be river rafting for visitors/tourists in the river barapole. Whitewater rafting is organized at the upper Barapole area called Kithu-Kakkatu River before it enters the Brahamagiri Wildlife Sanctuary in the Western Ghats.

There will be training and briefings on the do and don’ts, safety instructions and paddle techniques then you hit the water. You’ll be wearing life jacket and helmet while in the water. The most favorable season is post monsoon , Best time for Rafting – Monsoon Season June 15th to October 16th.

The river rafting is about 210km away from Bangalore, 85km from Mysore, 50km from Madikeri,  160km from Mangalore and 50km from Kushalnagar.

Prices hovers around Rs1200 per head.

Jeep safari

Jeep Safari is one of the best ways to explore the rich flora and fauna of Nagarahole wild life sanctuary.

The best time for the safari is from the month of October until June. The weather during these months is clear, thus increasing the chances of getting the glimpses of the animals. The Jeep safari is an Open Jeep Safari and it lasts usually for 2.5 hrs to 3 hours and the timings are always from 6.30 am to 9/9.30 am (the morning safari) and 3.30pm to 6pm (the evening safari).

Nagarahole national park is about 225km away from Bangalore, 90km from Mysore, 95km from Madikeri,  230km from Mangalore and 90km from Kushalnagar.

Elephant bathing

Dubare is known for its elephant camp, a forest camp on the banks of the river Kaveri in the district of Kodagu, Karnataka. It is an important base for the Karnataka Forest Department’s elephants.

By crossing the river Cauvery through coracle ride you can see the Dubare elephant training camp, where the elephant’s grooming, feeding, elephant ride will take place. The visitor/tourists can also participate in various activities like washing, scrubbing & feeding to the elephants.

Dubare is easily accessible from Bangalore. The route from Bangalore is via Mysore, Kushalnagar, Gudde Hosur (4 km from Kushalnagar on BM Road), then turn towards Siddapura. About 15 kilometre on the Siddapura Main Road visitors would find a Dubare Camp board.

Fishing camp

Valnoor is situated just near Dubare. Valnoor fishing camp is the best place to go fishing and to check your fishing skills. You have to carry your own fishing equipment to try your hand in fishing. Apart from fishing the view of the sunset is just awesome.

Begin your trip of 4-6 hours starting from 10:00 AM and set off to the fishing camp. Spend some hours indulging in fishing before heading back. The place is characterized by a spellbinding calmness. The surrounding landscape lends a mystic feel at Valnoor. It is here you would be able to few rare species of fishes. Some of the more common varieties found here include mapps, marals, eels and mahseer.

The two varieties marals and mahseers are found in abundance and considered to be prized catches. There is also the presence of various other fishes, which keeps the element of thrill.

Coorg is equally famous for its dry fruits like cashews, figs, and raisins, which are very popular among the locals and tourists. However, before buying them, look out for Coorg Ag-Mark Honey that marks the authenticity of the honey. Beware of the vendors who try to sell low-quality honey at exorbitant prices.

Coorg, with its sprawling coffee estates, happens to be one of the major producers of coffee in India. Talakaveri is the place where the River Kaveri originates. The temple on the riverbanks here is dedicated to lord Brahma, and is one of only two temples dedicated to Brahma in India and Southeast Asia. Bhagamandala is situated at the Sangam (confluence) of two rivers, the Kaveri and the Kanika. A third river, the Sujyothi, is said to join from underground, and hence this spot is called the Triveni Sangam. Iruppu Falls is a sacred Kodagu Hindu spot in South Kodagu in the Brahamagiri hill range. The Lakshmana Tirtha River, with the waterfalls, flows nearby and has a Rameshwara temple on its banks. It is said that this sacred river was created when Laxman, prince of Ayodhya and younger brother of Lord Ram, shot an arrow into nearby hill, the Brahmagiri hill.

Omkareshwara Temple is a beautiful temple built in the Indo-Sarcenic style in Coorg. Dubare is mainly an elephant-capturing and training camp of the Forest Department at the edge of Dubare forest; on the bank of the river Kaveri along the Kushalnagar – Siddapura road. Nagarahole is a national park and wildlife resort. Nisargadhama is a man-made island and picnic spot near Kushalnagar, formed by the river Kaveri.

Abbey Falls is a scenic waterfall 5 km from Madikeri. Mallalli falls is 25 km from Somwarpet, downhill of the Pushpagiri hills. Mandalapatti is 28 km from Madikeri. On the way to Abbey Falls, before 3 km from Abbey Falls take right, from their 25 km.
